Dancing Across Generations: Tappy Toes Joins National Project to Welcome Grandparents

December 31, 2025

At Tappy Toes, we believe our classes are for the whole family. We often see the magic that happens when a grandparent joins in. For instance, a Nana might help with a toe-tap while a Grandad beams with pride. Consequently, intergenerational bonding has become a core part of what we do.

Because of this, we are thrilled to announce some exciting news. Our founder, Claire Munday, recently joined a groundbreaking national initiative called The Generations Project.

What is the Generations Project?

The project is led by Sam Godfrey-Moore at What’s On 4 Kids. Furthermore, it is backed by Innovate UK. The mission is quite simple but very important. Specifically, it aims to make children’s activities more inclusive for grandparents.

Today, grandparents play a vital role in family life. They often handle the nursery run or provide childcare while parents work. Therefore, they should feel confident when booking and attending classes with their grandchildren.

Shaping the Future of Children's Activities

Claire was invited to join the expert Guidelines Team. She worked alongside other industry leaders, such as Sarah Cressall from The Creation Station. Together, they developed a set of practical standards for activity providers.

These new guidelines cover several key areas:

  • Simple Booking: Ensuring the digital journey is easy for everyone to use.
  • Inclusive Language: Using words that make grandparents feel like essential participants.
  • Session Design: Considering mobility and comfort for older adults during class.

Why This Matters to Tappy Toes

Claire feels very strongly about intergenerational play. For example, she remembers four grandmothers who formed a lasting friendship right in a Tappy Toes class.

By helping set these national standards, we ensure every session is welcoming. We want grandparents to feel like they truly belong. Ultimately, we want every generation to find their “spark” through music and movement.

We are excited to see these guidelines improve classes across the country. As a result, the world of children’s activities will become friendlier for the whole family.
