Franchisee Case Study- Megan Hammond

Children's Dance Franchise Network, Tappy Toes

Megan Hammond Tappy Toes teacherMeet Megan Hammond, our franchisee teaching classes in Hemel Hempstead, Chipperfield, Chesham and Amersham areas. Here is what Megan had to say about becoming a Tappy Toes children's dance franchisee…

Name: Megan

Location: Tappy Toes Hemel Hempstead and surrounding areas

Family: I live at home with my lovely partner James, our beautiful 2.5 year old daughter Remi and our very loving Labrador Shelby!

How often do you work?

I teach 4 mornings a week, Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. My lovely teacher Miss Steph, teaches for me on Thursdays. I carry out admin and other odd jobs throughout the week and I will be teaching more when my little one starts at nursery full time.

How does the job fit around your family life?

Tappy Toes fits around my family life perfectly. I have the best work/home life balance and I am very thankful to be doing something that I love as well as something that gives me the opportunity to have time off with my little one within the week. I teach only up until lunchtime so I can pick my little one up from nursery in the weekdays and the lovely thing about teaching on a Saturday morning is that she can come along to join in some weeks as well!

Where do you carry out your work?

I teach all my classes at village halls in the local area, no more than 15 minutes from my home. I carry out all my admin work at home in my office.

Do you need a car?

Yes. A car is essential for me for all my prop bags and to get to and from my venues!

Do you advertise?

Yes I advertise on social media, mainly Facebook and Instagram, activity provider websites, local magazines, handing out flyers and Tappy Toes Head Office advertise nationally which is amazing!

Do you get support/training?

Yes! One of the main reasons I just love being part of the Tappy Toes franchise is because of the amazing support and training we get from head office. Claire is amazing and dedicates lots of time to giving us the best support and training with everything! When I started as a franchisee in September 2020, Claire dedicated lots of time (on zoom and on phone calls – due to covid) to getting me set up on all the systems, marketing and advertising in my local area and teaching me all the lesson plans to teach my classes for the first term. The training is very flexible and you can fit it around your schedule. Claire is always a phone call away and all the other franchisees are full of knowledge and support to help too!

Are there any downsides to the role?

No! I absolutely love Tappy Toes, it’s so much fun!

Megan being MummyWhy would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?

After having my daughter I realised very quickly how fast our little ones grow up! I felt like I blinked and another milestone happened! I was due to go back to my previous employer when my daughter was 1 year old but unfortunately it wasn’t going to give me the work/home life balance I have today and I decided to start looking elsewhere. This is when I came across the amazing opportunity to become a Tappy Toes Franchisee. I love dancing and have danced from a very young age. I also love running my own business, providing a work/ home life balance that suits me and my family and I love dancing with all my amazing Tappy Toes customers every week!

Describe your typical day as a Tappy Toes franchisee

I wake up and get my little one ready for nursery, I drop her to nursery on the way to my classes and then head to my venues to set up. I set up with all my props, my bubble machine, I put out my name stickers, turn on the disco lights and teach my morning full of fabulous classes! We wiggle, march, sing, gallop, boogie, jump, skip and have a fantastic time! Everyone leaves class with a Tappy Toes sticker!

After I have finished teaching I pack my things away and into my car, I then go to collect my daughter from nursery after lunch and we spend the afternoon together. When she naps in the afternoon I carry out any admin from the morning. Cleaning props, doing invoices for classes or merchandise, social media posts and sometimes planning for any upcoming parties.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Tappy Toes really is the best! It’s so much fun and it’s heartwarming to see so many families come to our classes enjoying dancing together every week and seeing our amazing dancers develop in confidence each week and have so much fun!
