Classes coming to Coatbridge, Carnbroe and Airdrie, Lanarkshire
Hi everyone. I’m Nicola and can’t wait to become part of the ‘Tappy Toes’ community!
Who is Nicola?
I have always had a passion for dance and began my dancing career at the age of 3. I joined my local dance school and developed my skills in Freestyle, Cheerleading, Majorette, Rock n Roll, Modern and Hip Hop. I absolutely loved performing on stage and dressing up in all the glittery costumes. I have such fond memories of all the shows!
I sat my first teaching exam at the age of 17 and became a qualified dance teacher with the BATD. I then went on to teach at various schools and for a local council and absolutely loved all of the opportunities that I was given. Being with the children was my favourite part!
Shortly after this, I opened my own dance school and prepared children to dance at various events. I was such a proud ‘dance mummy’ and loved being able to use my creativity and watch the children flourish, grow in confidence and make friends. We always said that we were a ‘dance family’.
Working with Children
My love for working with children continued to grow when I became a qualified primary teacher in 2009. I have taught children of all ages and with varying needs and interests and I thrive on challenging myself to engage everyone in my class.
Shortly after beginning my teaching career, I moved to Pisa, Italy to teach in an international school. This experience has been one of life’s highlight and Italy, along with the children I taught, will forever hold a place in my heart.
In 2017, I then travelled around Cambodia and Vietnam and taught in various schools and other establishments. This was the WOW experience that I had always dreamed of having and I am still so thankful to have been given such a wonderful opportunity!
What Lead me to Tappy Toes?
I constantly strive to develop my skills and reach my life goals and when I became a mother to my two gorgeous girls, Bonnie and Iona, my love for working with children and teaching took a new direction.
My girls and I went to many baby and toddler classes during my maternity leave and these were the highlight of our week.
Watching my girls interact, grow in confidence and develop a range of skills, while having the support network of other mums, was invaluable.
When I had Iona, it became more problematic for me to go to classes as no classes in our area catered for both age groups. This then meant that we had to do classes and activities separately. This is when I realised that there was a gap in the market as I would have loved to have that special bonding time with both my girls.
You can imagine how excited I was when I came across Tappy Toes! There were no classes local to me at this point but in researching further, I realised that I could change that and become a part of the Tappy Toes community. I jumped at the chance!
